In case you hadn’t heard, we’ve been busy making outfits for the Royal Wedding Sew-Along. The big day—May 19th—is almost here! It’s not too late to consider adding the perfect accessory for your ensemble. The fascinator is more prevalent in the UK than it is here in the States (we only tend to see women wearing them to things like the Kentucky Derby), but we’d get behind a movement to start wearing them again. They’re cute and perky, right?!
Do you machine embroider? I only started machine embroidering in October, when the marketing team at Bernina USA lent me a 790Plus sewing machine that has embroidery capabilities. The learning curve is pretty quick and I’ve become utterly hooked on machine embroidering.
What’s cool is that there’s an abundance of embroidery designs available on the web, and Bernina also has the Bernina Toolbox, which is loaded with embroidery designs. I’m partial to our own Fashion By McCall’s collection, available at Embroidery Online. This collection features original illustrations and type designs from a 1932 McCall’s catalog in our archives. In the photo above, McCall’s designer Melissa Watson is wearing one of my favorite designs, “Chic at an early age.” For Christmas gifts this year, I bought a bunch of sweatshirts from H&M and embroidered them with other fun sayings from the collection.
So, if you have a machine that embroiders, please check out the Fashion By McCall’s collection. If you’re thinking about machine embroidery, I recommend scheduling a demo at your local sewing machine dealer, so you can see firsthand what’s involved. Just warning you, machine embroidery is really, really addicting.
