It’s the Gertie Pinterest Contest!

Gertie Pinterest contest sponsored by the McCall Pattern Company and Fabric Traditions

New contest for you to enter! It’s the Gertie Pinterest contest, and just for creating a lovely pinboard you could win $300 worth of Gertie fabric, $200 worth of Gertie patterns, and a $50 gift certificate from Jo-Ann Fabrics. Plus, there’s a bonus gift of a signed copy of Gertie’s Ultimate Dress Book, retail price of $36. That’s $586 worth of sewing-related prizes!

In case you aren’t familiar with Gertie of Gertie’s New Blog for Better Sewing, she’s a designer of retro-style patterns for Butterick, and she has her own line of fabrics at Jo-Ann Fabrics. (Not to mention a few books under her belt as well.) As you probably know from reading her blog, Gertie (a.k.a. Gretchen Hirsch) loves all things vintage.

So the team from McCall Pattern Company and Fabric Traditions (the manufacturer of Gertie’s fabrics) thought it would be fun to have a Pinterest contest around Gertie that lets you have some pinning playtime, and just might inspire your next retro or vintage-style makes. Here’s what you need to do to enter:

Imagine a scene or setting for Gertie and style a Pinterest board around this scene. For example: a “Gertie at Coney Island, 1955” board could be filled with pins of cats-eye sunglasses, straw beach bag, vintage towel and 1950s magazines to read. Vintage scenes or contemporary scenes—it doesn’t matter. Just be creative and have fun with your Gertie scenes!

Feel free to pin Gertie patterns found here and Gertie fabrics found here, though pinning them is not a requirement and won’t affect your chances of winning.

Prized for the 2016 Gertie Pinterest contestWhen you’re done with your board, email a link to your board to with Gertie Pinterest Contest in the subject line by Friday, March 18th. McCall Pattern Company Spring 2016 Collections Video

In case you missed it: We just debuted a new video about what to sew for spring, and McCall’s designer Melissa Watson has a new video series about fit, made in conjunction with Fabric Mart. You can see all our new videos here.

  1. Is there a minimum number of pins?
    Thanks 🙂

    1. No there’s not a minimum requirement.

  2. Can you submit more than one board?

    1. Scratch that. Just read all the rules. 🙂

  3. I absolutely love Gertie and I have many McCalls patterns. It’s a shame this contest is only open to residents of the USA. I’m Canadian and I live in Mexico. It’s so hard to find such fun things here and I would have loved to have been able to participate in this contest.

    1. I got excited about this and started collecting pins, until I realized it’s not open to Canadian citizens. Bummer. 🙁

      1. To you and Heather, we hear you! We would love to open this contest up beyond the US. But other countries have rules and restrictions on contest and giveaways, and creating a one-size-fits-most promotion suddenly becomes a challenge. But you’re right, you deserve a chance to play along too. We promise the next time we do something like this we’ll do our best to find a way to include other countries.

        1. Whaaaat…? Is it only for US citizents? But I’m all they way from Norway =(

        2. Sorry, but can you sratch my contribution then? I just send mine in. So sad

  4. I love fashion. I love fabric. I enjoyed reading your blog for the first time. My friend introduced me to your blog.

  5. Are we able to continue pinning to our pinboard even after we submit it? I just want to double-check if I can continue to pin on it until the deadline or if I need to stop once I send in my submission email.

    1. You may pin to it up until 3/18/16.

  6. What do I do if I sent in my Pinterest Board but for got to put my name and info in before I sent it?

  7. No questions here – I just wanted to say thank you for putting together this contest! It was such a fun way to inspire new ideas within sewing and traveling! Now I want to go to all the places and try all of the food and drinks that I pinned. 🙂 Thanks!

  8. I had so much fun with this contest! I realized I was born in the wrong era! Loving the new ideas about retro fashion from Gertie!
