McCall Pattern Company video featuring six patterns from Butterick, McCall's, and Vogue Patterns' to sew this summer.

Wondering what to sew for the summer? Take a look at our latest video featuring a few key pieces from our summer Butterick, McCall’s and Vogue Patterns collections. From dresses to jumpsuits, we picked pieces that are fast to sew and easy to wear. Watch it now:

My colleagues Carlos and Karen are such troopers, agreeing to be in these videos in addition to keeping up with their regular jobs as Vogue Patterns Designer and Associate Art Director/Associate Fashion Editor, respectively. We hope you like these collection videos, as we plan on producing another video for the Fall ’15 collections. Let us know what you think in the comments section. Thanks!

This latest video from the McCall Pattern Company features six patterns you'll want to sew this summer.

We’ve been sewing since 1863.

  1. v9017 is such a beauty and would flatter a lot of women, but the key thing is to keep the darker fabric closer to the face. I’ve seen too many knit and sewn garments lately (ombre prints, etc.) where the darker part is at the hem or the bottom. It’s all wrong and completely unflattering.

    1. Thanks Mary Beth for your tip!

  2. I think these videos are great. Karen is beautiful and I know the samples she is wearing are probably made in small- tall sizes, but I personally would love to see the samples shown on different sized bodies in these videos. Look forward to the fall edition!

    1. Hi Manju, glad you like the video! Yes, it’s great to use Karen because a) she already works here, so FREE talent!; and b) she does fit into the sample garments, so we don’t have to worry about asking the dressmaking department to please make extra samples for us. We are starting to think about the fall video now and we will be considering how to show the patterns on different body types. Thanks for the input!

  3. Thanks for this great video … and all the others you published lately. They are very interesting.
    Regards, Muriel

  4. These are always very helpful videos to watch. I so appreciate that everyone gets involved to be able to present the samples on a person moving. I would even think it would be fun to be able to click on a short clip of the models moving in the “Lookbook” which comes out each season. I see those type of clips in online stores quite often. Of course, I know this is a lot to ask, so understand it’s just a reference, not a suggestion. I like what you do here better because you are discussing options.

Sizing of samples is always a big deal when designing, so I think it works to continue highlighting others who submit pictures to your Pinterest account. That is a good representation of how the outfits work for different sizes. We all need to keep in mind that all styles may not flatter every body type unless substantial fitting and pattern alterations are made before sewing. Thus, it no long is a “pattern sample” but a custom garment.

Thank you, for keeping us all up to date. It’s so much fun and much more gratifying knowing the company/people we purchase from. Sewing my own clothes is such a personal craft, it helps with the connection on a more personal level.

  5. I love watching these videos – such a great idea.

I live in Australia and am curious as to why I can’t find Vogue 1446 locally? It’s new to your catalog and yet I can’t seem to find it in the stores.

Like the idea of different body shapes for the next video too.

  6. Great video, I love the first vouge dress and will be snapping it up as soon as it hits Australia.

  7. I enjoy the fact you are taking a real interest in us and our love of sewing. 🙂

  8. I enjoy these videos a lot, please continue making them 🙂

  9. I really enjoy the videos and suggestions. Thanks for doing them.

  10. Love, love love the videos! I appreciate all of the hard work everyone at McCall’s does to put together these videos. Please keep them coming! I look forward to the Fall video. All the best.

  11. Karen has really sold me on B6203. Back in the day, we called those prairie dresses. I’m going to make one before summer is over.
